In light of the raising awareness of climate issues, Sunreef Yachts was among the first to design and manufacture eco-friendly versions of its classic sailing and power catamarans as well as superyachts. The first-ever Sunreef 80 Eco yacht featuring the ‘solar skin’ sailed the waters in 2022.  Shortly after its launch, the Sunreef Yachts Eco range was awarded multiple prestigious awards, including the most prominent World Yachts Trophy, Eco Green Catamarans Trophy, Explorer Awards, and German Innovation Awards 2023– further validating the vision of our discerning Sunreef buyer.

Part 4: The Words of a Sunreef Buyer

Apart from being an impassioned yachting enthusiast, this Sunreef buyer is a proud environmentalist who meticulously researched his options before settling for an 80 Sunreef Power ECO catamaran. Two important issues on the table for discussion were the utilization of solar energy and employment of electric propulsion to minimize the climate impact of large yachts.

As a result, Sunreef created SÓL, an 80-feet power catamaran, with fuel savings, low maintenance, and ultra-silent operations as its most noteworthy plus-points. Additionally, the overall design of the catamaran was also boosted with a shallower draft to offer better mobility and lesser drag. In the words of the Sunreef buyer, “The 80 Sunreef Power Eco benefits from a sustainable design that is also aesthetically appealing to an increasing audience of aware consumers.”

Solar cells from Sunreef Yachts Eco have a thickness below one-millimeter, peak performance of 24 percent, and weigh 1.8 kilograms per square meter, making it the lightest marine solar power system in the market. This in-house engineered ‘solar skin’ is embedded across the body of the solar catamaran, starting at the hulls, superstructure, bimini, and mast (in the case of a sailing catamaran).

Additionally, the lithium-ion marine batteries in use onboard is 30 percent lighter than the average electric boat batteries. The Sunreef buyer admits,” (Sunreef) also allows for lots of solar (generation) capacity on different parts of a boat other than just a flat bimini top. (The) 80 Sunreef Power is imaged for long fume and pollution free cruises, powered by clean energy, and designed with proprietary eco solutions and technology you will find nowhere else.”
